All year 4 and 5 classes were delighted to receive special workshop sessions with much-respected musician, Alex Wilson.
During the week, children had studied and developed poetic language on the refugee theme, then drafted and published their own poetic works. A number of these pieces were also integrated into the performance by their proud authors.
Alex and the professional musicians captivated children’s attention and engagement with their exuberant, positive attitude and professional musical excellence.
The children chose and adapted verses from Benjamin Zephaniah’s acclaimed ‘We Refugees’ poem, discovering their own melodies and rhythms under expert guidance.
Each class produced a unique musical contribution as part of a larger whole-year performance, which included a joint chorus, sang as a round in finale.
