Year 6 Residential Visit to Fair Play House

This week, some pupils from year 6 had the opportunity to visit FairPlay House, an outdoor education centre near Witham, for their highly anticipated residential trip. This 3-day experience was packed with exciting activities, team-building challenges, and opportunities to push personal boundaries.

Staying for two nights, pupils took part in a range of outdoor activities designed to test their physical skills and courage. High ropes and zip lines had many of the children conquering their fear of heights, while archery put their focus and precision to the test. In the archery sessions, pupils had to carefully listen and follow complex instructions to ensure they loaded their bows correctly and safely shot real arrows at their targets, an experience that required both concentration and patience. The pupils learned how to make their own beds, with many supporting each other in this task. They also had responsibilities to maintain the house for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring everything was in order and ready for meals.

In addition to the daytime fun, the evenings were just as eventful. On the first night, pupils enjoyed a thrilling night walk through the woods with a unique twist – they were in charge of leading their teachers back to the house! Relying on teamwork, communication, and a little bit of bravery, they successfully navigated their way through the dark, guiding the adults back to safety. The second night was filled with laughter and cheers as pupils took the stage for a lively talent show. Whether it was singing, dancing, or showcasing hidden talents, everyone had a fantastic time and even the teachers joined in!

This visit was much more than just an opportunity to try new activities. It was a chance for pupils to challenge themselves, face their fears, and gain confidence in their abilities. Many of them came back stronger, having learned the value of perseverance and teamwork. Stronger friendships were formed, and the sense of independence gained over these two nights was evident as they returned home, ready for the next chapter of year 6.
