Brass Masterclass and Workshops

We were very lucky for some of our pupils to have the opportunity to participate in some brass workshops. Isabel Thompson and Grace Harman, 2 final year students and musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music initially led an assembly for years 4, 5 and 6 where they performed a number of pieces, many recognised by the pupils. They finished the assembly with a question and answer session, explaining how they first became interested in playing a musical instrument and their aspirations for the future. Following on from the assembly, each class in years 4 and 6 participated in a workshop, with year 4 pupils having hands-on experience in playing “P-buzz” and trumpets, with year 6 playing trumpets and trombones. It was very apparent that we have some pupils with a natural talent as many of the pupils found it difficult to get a note out of the instruments. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, some pupils not wanting the session to end. A great opportunity for all. “When my class and I went to the workshop, everyone found it fun as we got to try to play instruments that we have not had a chance to play before. It was a great experience that we may not get again,” Isa (Helleborine).
