Support for Parents

We offer parents training and support within workshops with school staff and external professionals such as our Resource Provision Speech and Language Therapist.

The workshops we hold include:

  • Eating and Dressing
  • Sleep
  • Toileting
  • Communication and core board training

These workshops enable the school, external professional services and parents to work together, using the same strategies and resources resulting in improved outcomes for pupils both at home and school. Consistency of approach between school and home leads to greater progress in children’s development of communication, life skills and functional numeracy and literacy skills.

Parents/carers have the opportunity to share ideas with each other and network.

The workshops enable parents to more effectively meet the needs of their children at home and develop communication, functional life skills and emotional regulation.

Parents may also receive 1:1 training and support from our speech and language therapists and from SEND school staff. These are tailored to the needs of specific children.

We also offer training and support with resources (e.g. communication aids) to parents/carers. Requests can be made to either the class teacher or a member of the SEND team.

We have a Family Support Worker and Pastoral Team who work with families to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Placements

Placements for our Resource Provision are made by the Local Authority.

In making their decision, the Local Authority refer to reports and representations from various professionals.
They take into account the individual child’s level of need and the wishes of parents.
