At our school, children of all ethnic groups and at all stages of learning English are included in mainstream classes. Teachers are supported by our dedicated Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA) team.
These are specialist teachers whose work ensures equal provision for all children, regardless of culture, colour, race, ethnic background and language skills.
The Essex EMA help non-English speakers/EM-identified children adjust to their new lives at Essex Primary School. They liaise with teachers, run programmes and organise activities:
- Kickstart Club (for children new to English)
- Ensure resources reflect our cultural/language diversity
In addition, the EMA team make sure the wider curriculum is representative of our school community. Events such as Black History Month, Refugee Week, and the celebration of Mother Tongue Day are celebrated through projects, publications and performance.
