World Book Day

Some of the world’s best known and well loved book characters attended Essex Primary School for our annual celebration of World Book Day.  The theme this year is ‘Read Your Way’ and we are encouraging everyone to set off on their reading journey with a sentence, a page, a chapter or more … because everyone is a reader, however they choose to do it!  Reading for pleasure is a vital indicator of a child’s future success – more than their parents’ educational background or their family’s income. We want all our pupils to enjoy a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings.  That’s why reading is a priority at Essex Primary School and we have heavily invested in reading provision.  We can also see from the fantastic cosy reading area homework projects that parents are also aware of the benefits of reading for pleasure – well done to all who have created these havens for their children.

Throughout the day, pupils enjoyed exploring a book chosen by their teachers and engaged in a range of activities including a nationwide quiz competing with schools across the country.  A special assembly was held and our reading ambassadors selected the most creative costumes from each year group to win a fabulous book to treasure and enjoy.  One of the best things about World Book Day is that every child is awarded their own £1 token to exchange for one of the World Book Day books – you can visit our Book Fair coming on 15th March in time for ARD day to exchange yours or visit any participating bookseller.
