Year 2 – Landscape Drawing

This term in Art, the Year 2 pupils will be creating ‘Plein Air’ drawings and watercolour paintings inspired by Claude Monet and Joseph Turner.  They visited Wanstead Flats to look at the local area landscapes and capture different portions of the sky. Pupils used picture frames to capture core details within a snapshot before applying the ‘look, draw, look’ skill in their drawings. The children were able to apply their observational drawings skills, which included sketching, shading and creating different tones, to create a real-life representation of the landscape that they could see before them. This visit allowed pupils to develop these fundamental skills and express their creativity in a real-life context, which will prove invaluable to them as they continue their creative arts journey during their years at Essex and beyond.
