At Essex, we value diversity. We have many talented people from different backgrounds, and we wanted to celebrate this diversity as part of our British Science Week ‘Smashing Stereotypes’ campaign. The science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) sectors are very diverse. There are people working in labs, at universities, in innovation centres, in businesses and out on construction sites, who come from so many different backgrounds, and who have taken lots of different routes into their career. The jobs people do and the ways that they work as a scientist are broad and diverse, however many children are not aware of all the possibilities.
To celebrate British Science Week, the pupils explored different vocations in the field of Science and took part in a range of exciting, scientific activities throughout the day. Children paid meticulous attention to building their investigative skills when carrying out an investigation.
