World Book Day

World Book Day is a brilliant celebration of reading and an opportunity to discover new authors and illustrators. Essex Primary School celebrated World Book Day on Friday 3rd March 2023 with a fantastic assembly hosted by the year 6’s. The assembly started off with a bang by the year 6 choir singing the World Book Day song. This created a buzz during the assembly as children were swaying to the beat. Rumaisa and Taslima (our fantastic hosts) shared their all time favourite ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We were lucky enough to have fantastic performers to retell the story with great enthusiasm, passion and energy.

Throughout the day, all classes explored their teachers’ favourite book and took part in a range of engaging activities. The children discussed what a reading identity is and were able to discover theirs. They were given opportunities to express their reading identities in a creative way: through writing, vocalising and creating posters. It was an amazing day enjoyed by both children and teachers.

Essex staff were truly impressed with the remarkable effort children put in by dressing up as their favourite book characters.
